PREPARATION OF THE ABSTRACT

The official language of the SIGERA proceedings will be Portuguese but papers in English will be also accepted.

1. Manuscript Style

a. The International Units System must be used in all manuscripts;

b. Define all abbreviations at their first mention in the text and again in the tables and figures. Once an abbreviation is used, it should be used throughout the entire text, except at the beginning of a sentence.

c. Both the active ingredient and chemical name must be given when first mentioned;

d. Identify soils using the USDA soil taxonomy http://soils.usda.gov/technical/classification/osd/index.html) up to the second level (suborder) or if possible up to the fourth level (subgroup). FAO classification may be used up to the second level. Free translations of soil classifications or names are not allowed;

e. Spell out numbers one through nine;

f. Percentages must be expressed as whole numbers, e.g.: 35% rather than 35.4%; 48% rather than 47.5%; 79% rather than 78.9%.

g. Denote and interrelate units as positive or negative powers, not with slashes, e.g.: kg ha-1, not kg/ha;

h. Leave a single space between units, e.g.: g L-1, not g.L -1, or gL -1;

i. Use the 24-h time system, with four digits for hours and minutes: 09h00;

j. Dates should be written with the day first, then the month, and the year last: 18 Mar 2000; 01 Feb 1987.

2. Content

Manuscripts should be organized as one file containing the main document. MS Word for Windows should be used, with 11-point Times New Roman, 2.0-cm margins, and simple spacing (1.0).

We recommend using the file "Template_Sigera_2017" for writing the Abstract.

Organize the main document in the following order:

a. Title - Must be accurate and informative, covering a maximum of two lines.

b. Author name(s), full postal and e-mail addresses for each author. See Template

c. Abstract - No more than 250 words.

d. Keywords - Should be registered until 3 keywords (in alphabetical order).

e. Introduction - Presenting the justification and importance of the subject, highlighting the problem that was researched. At the end of the section presenting the aims of the study.

f. Material and Methods - A brief description of the methods/techniques used (the principles of these methods should not be described if readers can be directed to easily accessible references or standard texts).

g. Results and Discussion - Presenting the experimental results, highlighting trends or points of interest.

h. Conclusions - Do not use this item to summarize the results. Highlight the progress and applications that study provided. If appropriate, suggest future studies.

i. Acknowledgements - This topic is optional.

j. References

  • Should be listed alphabetically.

  • Use surname of author and year of publication: Jones (2002) or (Jones, 2002).

  • Insert initials only if there are two different authors with the same surname and same year of publication.

  • Two or more years in parentheses following an author's name are cited in ascending order of year, and two or more references published in the same year by the same author are differentiated by letters a, b, c, etc. For example: Brown (1999, 2002, 2003a, b).

  • Different references cited together should be in date order, for example: (Smith, 1959; Thomson and Jones, 1992; Green, 1999).

  • The abbreviation "et al." should be used in the text when there are more than two co-authors.
